“There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear.” — 1 John 4:18

Fear often sits at the center of an abortion decision. Fear of being alone. Fear of finances. Fear of disappointing others. Fear of the future. For Katy, fear nearly led her to an abortion appointment. With all the courage she could find, she called an abortion clinic and scheduled the procedure. But after wrestling with her conscience and remembering God’s grace, she canceled. She expected relief. Instead, she found herself overwhelmed.

The pregnancy was still there. The questions remained. How would she provide for a baby? What would her family think? Was she ready to become a mother? What would happen to her plans? Although she knew Christ had forgiven her sins, Katy still felt lost and uncertain. Looking for help, she searched online and found Care Net’s Pregnancy Decision Line. Gathering her courage once again, she called.

Her coach listened without judgment and reminded her that she had options besides abortion. She assured Katy that she did not need to rush and encouraged her to carefully consider both her own well-being and the life growing inside her. As snowflakes drifted past her bedroom window, Katy sat quietly after the call. She still didn’t know exactly what came next. But she no longer felt alone.

Fear Doesn’t Disappear Overnight

Many people assume that once a woman rejects abortion and chooses life, the crisis is over. In reality, choosing life is often just the beginning. The fears that drove her toward abortion didn’t magically disappear. Questions about housing, finances, relationships, work, education, and parenting remain. In many cases, they become even more pressing.

This is one reason Care Net’s vision extends beyond simply helping a woman avoid abortion. The goal is not merely a life decision. It is abundant life. Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and have it abundantly” (John 10:10). That abundant life includes healthy relationships, strong families, discipleship, and connection to the body of Christ. Saving babies matters. But God desires even more. He desires restoration.

What Does It Mean That Perfect Love Casts Out Fear?

The apostle John writes:

“There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love” (1 John 4:18).

John is not saying believers never experience anxiety or uncertainty. Even faithful followers of Christ wrestle with difficult circumstances. Instead, John points us to the source of our confidence.

  • Fear says, “I’m on my own.”
  • Perfect love says, “God is with me.”
  • Fear says, “Everything depends on me.”
  • Perfect love says, “God will provide.”
  • Fear says, “My failures define me.”
  • Perfect love says, “Christ has already paid for my sins and adopted me into His family.”

God’s perfect love doesn’t always remove difficult circumstances immediately, but it does remove the lie that we are abandoned. And often, He expresses that love through His people.

God’s Love Has Hands and Feet

Throughout Scripture, God demonstrates His love through relationships and community.

  • He places the lonely in families (Psalm 68:6).
  • He calls believers to bear one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2).
  • He commands the church to care for one another as members of one body (1 Corinthians 12:27).

That’s why Care Net’s Pro Abundant Life vision emphasizes more than a single moment of crisis intervention. Pregnancy Decision Line coaches walk alongside women facing difficult decisions. Care Net affiliated pregnancy centers provide practical support, parenting education, material resources, and compassionate care. Through Making Life Disciples, volunteers are equipped to offer ongoing discipleship and connect families with healthy churches and life-giving relationships. Because women don’t simply need a “yes” to life. They need support for life.

The Answer to Fear Is Not Isolation

Many women considering abortion feel as though they must carry the burden alone. But isolation was never God’s design. From the beginning, God created people for relationships—with Himself and with others. The church is meant to be a place where frightened mothers, uncertain fathers, and vulnerable families find hope, encouragement, and community.

That’s what Pro Abundant Life looks like in the real world. Not merely preventing an abortion. Not simply providing diapers. But helping people encounter Jesus and experience the abundant life He offers.
