How you offered Kara and Dave life-saving hope

When Kara* arrived at our ICU Mobile medical unit in Oklahoma City, she was shocked, overwhelmed, and unsure what to do. She and her boyfriend, Dave*, had been together for twelve years and had never faced an unplanned pregnancy before. In twelve years together, they’d never had to imagine this moment — and now that it was here, everything felt uncertain.

Kara told the mobile medical team she was considering abortion, but she also had questions about adoption. She wasn’t sure which path was right for her and her baby, and she needed someone to sit with her in the uncertainty, without judgment, while she figured out what came next.

Because of generous friends like you, Kara received compassionate, nonjudgmental care that day: practical education about her options, a free pregnancy test, and an ultrasound. Still unsure of what to do, Kara agreed to come back for a second ultrasound — this time, promising to bring her boyfriend, Dave, with her.

You Helped Dave See His Child for the First Time, Too

The team was thrilled when Kara showed up for the second ultrasound appointment with Dave by her side. Dave got to experience the same Christ-like compassion that met Kara in her first appointment . . . and then the couple went back for their ultrasound.

When Dave saw the ultrasound images of his baby, moving and so alive, something shifted in him. Right there in the mobile unit, he told Kara he wanted to parent their child. Fear gave way to courage, and together, Kara and Dave chose LIFE.

Our team sees this moment again and again: when a father sees his baby on the screen for the first time, everything can change. That’s why Care Net’s mobile medical ministry always offers a second, free ultrasound so dads have the chance to be part of this decision too. Your support also offers men like Dave step into fatherhood with confidence through practical training.

A New Chapter Begins

Later that week, Kara and Dave attended their first parenting class at the local Care Net affiliated pregnancy center — the first of many steps toward learning how to care for the baby they’d chosen to welcome. Through the class, they earned “baby bucks” they could use to shop in the center’s baby boutique where they picked out some of the items they desperately needed as they got ready for their baby’s arrival.

Because of friends like you, fear met compassion, an anxious mom found support, and a hesitant dad found the courage to stay — and a family found hope.

Thank you for helping Kara and Dave choose LIFE for their baby, and for giving a father the courage to step into parenthood with confidence.
