Kris found freedom from her past abortion
For more than two decades, Kris carried a secret burden of shame, grief, and regret.
Raised in a Christian home, she experienced deep wounds during her teenage years when her parents divorced following her father’s affair. Searching for love and acceptance, she entered unhealthy relationships as a young adult.
When she was 20, she found out she was pregnant. Feeling trapped by fear, pressure, and embarrassment, she chose abortion.
The decision brought short-term relief . . . followed by years of emotional and spiritual pain.
Kris struggled with guilt, self-condemnation, feelings of unworthiness, and a persistent belief that she could never truly be forgiven. Although she loved God and remained active in church, the wounds of her abortion continued to affect her relationships, health, and sense of identity.
For 22 years, she carried that burden alone.
You Pointed to Truth: Jesus is Enough
Then, during a women’s Bible study, God interrupted her story. A simple card in a church restroom pointed her to Care Net’s Forgiven and Set Free Bible study. Although terrified to reach out, Kris finally made the call to our ministry.
From her first conversation with a compassionate leader, she experienced something she had not felt in years: hope.
Through Forgiven and Set Free, Kris walked honestly through her grief, faced the reality of her abortion, and encountered the life-changing truth of God’s forgiveness. During one lesson, she realized that Christ’s sacrifice was truly sufficient — even for her abortion. In that moment, the shame and condemnation she had carried for 22 years were lifted.
As Kris describes it, “The knowledge that I carried in my head finally made it to my heart. Jesus is enough.”
Today, she lives in the freedom promised in Romans 8:1: “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
Her healing journey did not end there.
Grateful for the freedom from shame she received, Kris completed Care Net’s Forgiven and Set Free leader training and now serves other women walking the same path. What began as a story of pain has become a story of redemption, equipping her to help others discover the hope, healing, and freedom she found through Christ.
Thank you for making stories like this possible!
