As I am writing this column, parts of our nation are still in “lockdown mode” as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, while others are slowly trying to safely reopen. It has certainly been interesting watching how my coworkers, friends, and family have dealt with being at home in their own unique ways. Some have used the time to learn new skills or take on those lingering home improvement projects; some have caught up on their reading, and some have just tried to survive with their sanity intact.

Whichever route you take, there are things you can learn from Christ himself about how to handle yourself during a time of crisis. By modeling our behavior on Jesus, we can exchange fear for faith, hoarding for sharing, and isolation for engagement. In short, we can use this time to serve others!

Indeed, while we should observe “physical distancing,” rules during a time of pandemic, we should never “socially distance” ourselves as Christians. We are called to love and serve others, especially in challenging times.

During this time of isolation, we can grow by learning how to serve women and men considering abortion. After all, this time of isolation and fear has produced an increased demand for and desperation around abortion. But how does one approach such a sensitive issue?

Care Net took our decades of experience in walking women and men through tough pregnancy decisions and created an online course just for you. It’s called Making Life Disciples, and it is designed to teach you these skills, take them to your church, and turn it into a beacon of hope in your community.

Normally, we charge a nominal fee for the course, but we wanted to make it available to you for free to help you spend your extra time at home in service of the Kingdom.

To access the free course, go to carenetu.org, click on Making Life Disciples Self-Paced Course, click on “Take Course,” and use the code MLDFREE20 at checkout.

Already, hundreds of people have taken advantage of this opportunity, and I pray and hope that you will, too. I promise it will enrich you, fill you with the Spirit, and motivate you to do what you can (even just the little things!) to provide compassion, hope, and help to those who are vulnerable to the lies of abortion.

And may God bless you daily as you serve him faithfully”¦ even in times of crisis!
