Thanks to your help, Tonya and Derek are excited to grow their family
When Tonya* stepped onto the ICU Mobile medical unit she’d noticed serving people in her neighborhood, she was carrying far more than a pregnancy.
Life felt heavy. She and the baby’s father, Derek,* were facing multiple hardships at once – unstable housing, financial pressure, and the emotional strain that so often accompanies uncertainty about the future.
Like many women served by Care Net’s mobile medical ministry, Tonya lived in a neighborhood where access to trustworthy medical care and compassionate support is limited. In fact, her neighborhood is the kind of place where, historically, Planned Parenthood has preyed upon the residents. Instead of offering real choices and compassionate care, they push abortion as the “only” solution to the “problem” of an unplanned pregnancy.
But the mobile medical team unit met Tonya right where she was — both physically and emotionally.
At the outset, Tonya said she was considering abortion. Before rushing to conclusions or judgment, our team did what they always do: they listened. They offered medical clarity. They also gave Tonya something even more powerful – hope. They prayed with her and Derek right there in the medical unit. In that moment, God began working in ways this distressed young couple could have never predicted.
As part of her care, the team shared Before You Decide, Care Net’s medically accurate resource that walks through pregnancy options with compassion and clarity. They also connected the couple with local resources to help address their practical needs. And then they stayed in touch — checking in, encouraging, and continuing to walk alongside them.
Days later, Tonya sent a text message that stopped the team in their tracks.
“You’ve been a blessing to us,” she wrote. “That prayer you made for me at my appointment basically changed everything for me. I’m sad that I was contemplating other options. But I knew I couldn’t do it! Now we are extremely happy and feeling really blessed. God is definitely good.”
Praise God! Through one appointment – made possible by your generosity – a family moved from fear to joy, from uncertainty to peace, and from contemplating abortion to choosing life.
Of course, this is real life, and not a fairy tale, so this couple’s journey remains challenging. At a recent prenatal visit, doctors noticed potential abnormalities in the baby boy’s heart. A follow-up scan is scheduled, so please join us in lifting this family up in prayer – for calm, for peace, for healing, and for a healthy child. Please also pray this young couple will find stable, permanent housing where they can raise their baby.
