As I reflected on the cover story for our December newsletter, I realized that there are thousands (maybe millions) of unsung heroes in our fight to save the unborn and give families abundant life.
They are the moms, dads, sisters, brothers, friends, and clergy helping women and men face tough pregnancy decisions every day in our society.
They are what I have come to call “life advocates.”
Life advocates are “first responders.” They are the first few people that a pregnant woman confides in when she finds out she is pregnant and doesn’t know what to do. Possibly scared and confused, she is looking for someone to give her comfort, answers, and guidance”¦ or maybe just a listening ear.
In other words, that first responder is going to have a big influence on the decision that the pregnant mother makes. An encouraging word and a promise of support and understanding can lead to a decision to choose life for their unborn baby. A discouraging word and a lack of compassion can start that mother down a destructive path.
That’s why it’s critical to engage and equip these first responders — these Life Advocates — to know how much influence they have and how they can use their influence to support life.
As Proverbs 27:17 says, “As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.” While the work of organizations and institutions is critical in our fight to save the unborn and build God-honoring families, let us not forget how irreplaceable it is for one person to reach out in compassion towards another in need, reflecting Christ’s mercy and compassion for each of us.
I am honored that you continue to support Care Net as we help God’s people discover the Life Advocate they have within them so they can become winsome and effective voices for the unborn.
