Some of the most life-altering decisions do not happen in a clinic waiting room. They happen in everyday places, in everyday moments, when fear and uncertainty collide and someone wonders where to turn next. That is why mobile pregnancy ministry matters. It brings help, hope, and the love of Christ into communities where women already live, work, shop, and seek answers.
In January 2025, Care Net officially merged with ICU Mobile, expanding our shared mission to serve women and families with compassionate, life-affirming care. In a recent episode of CareNet TV, Care Net President and CEO Roland Warren sat down with Kisha Martin, Mobile Operations Manager at ICU Birth Choice in Detroit, Michigan. When Roland met Kisha at the ICU Mobile conference in Akron, he knew her story needed to be shared, not because it is unusual, but because it is a clear picture of how God moves people from willingness to calling.

In this episode of CareNet TV, Care Net President and CEO Roland Warren sits down with Kisha Martin, Mobile Operations Manager at ICU Birth Choice in Detroit.
A Mobile Unit That Becomes a Known Place of Help
Kisha and her team serve the Detroit area by going into different neighborhoods on different days, often parking near familiar community locations. Over time, that consistent presence becomes a quiet invitation. People begin to recognize the mobile unit, remember when it will be there, and feel confident that help is within reach if they need it.
As Kisha explained, many clients first come for a pregnancy test, an ultrasound, or practical resources. But what they encounter is something deeper: a calm, welcoming environment where they are treated with dignity, listened to without judgment, and offered hope rooted in truth. The mobile unit is not a temporary setup. It is a fully functioning medical space on wheels, powered by a generator and equipped with essential tools like an ultrasound machine, a printer, and a comfortable, office-like interior. In Kisha’s words, it is “an office on wheels.”
How God Turned a Volunteer into a Leader
Kisha’s path into mobile ministry started in a familiar place: serving as a volunteer. Before joining ICU Birth Choice, she volunteered at Care Net Detroit and Berkeley. Those years of service deepened her conviction and widened her vision for what pregnancy ministry can accomplish.
Her transition into leadership came through a surprising conversation. After speaking at a pro-life chapter meeting, a man asked her a direct question: had she ever considered leading a pregnancy center. Kisha had thought about it, but never said it out loud. The responsibility felt heavy. Yet God was already opening doors. That same night, she was urged to call a number and connect with the director, who would later become her boss. When she learned his granddaughter was in surgery, Kisha responded simply: she would pray. That moment of compassion became a turning point. He called her back, and six years later she was serving as a mobile operations leader in Detroit.
Kisha’s story is a reminder that God often advances His work through ordinary steps: a conversation, a phone call, a prayer offered for someone you have never met. Faithfulness is rarely flashy, but it is often formative.
The Passion Behind the Mission: Healing, Forgiveness, and Calling
Kisha shared that her passion is deeply personal. She is post-abortive and first connected with Care Net when the ministry came to her church as it prepared to open a center near Detroit. She described how God prompted her to step away from other responsibilities so she could be present that Sunday. It was not convenient, but it was significant.
When she began volunteering, she encountered questions she had never answered out loud, including whether she had experienced abortion and whether she had received healing. She had not. She also did not realize post-abortion counseling was available. That counseling became a milestone in her life and changed how she saw her story. What once felt like hidden pain became a testimony of God’s mercy and a pathway to serve women facing similar burdens.
Kisha described Care Net’s influence on her calling in a way that cuts to the heart of Pro Abundant Life ministry: it is not only about saving babies, it is also about helping women and men experience forgiveness, restoration, and discipleship. It is about creating disciples, followers of God who learn that God’s grace is real, personal, and powerful.
A Day in the Life of Mobile Ministry
Mobile ministry begins before the first client arrives. For Kisha’s team, it begins with prayer. They pray for the Holy Spirit’s guidance, for wisdom in conversations, and for peace amid opposition. They also pray for the person who might walk up to the door, even if that person never comes for a pregnancy test or ultrasound. Sometimes the need is practical. Sometimes it is spiritual. Sometimes it is simply a moment where someone needs to be seen.
After arriving on site, the team sets out signage offering free pregnancy tests and free ultrasounds. They welcome appointments and walk-ins. Kisha noted that they once parked across the street from an abortion clinic, but increased aggression and safety concerns forced the team to reposition. Even so, the mission did not change. They remained close enough to be accessible while prioritizing safety for clients and staff.
Because mobile units are flexible, they can also travel to areas where abortion rates are high, attend community events, and visit churches that partner through donations and support. The ability to move makes the ministry resilient. It also makes it relational. The unit becomes a visible reminder that help is not far away, and that the Church can be present beyond its walls.
Roland captured the theological heartbeat of this approach with a simple observation: Jesus went mobile. He did not stay in one place waiting for people to come to Him. He went into towns, crossed barriers, met the woman at the well, and brought truth and mercy directly into lived reality. Mobile ministry follows that pattern by meeting today’s “woman at the well” in real time, often when she feels alone and unsure what to do next.
A Story That Shows Why Mobile Matters
When asked for a client story, Kisha shared one she will never forget. A woman approached the unit angry and overwhelmed. She had taken the abortion pill and was furious to hear she was still pregnant. During the visit, the team completed a pregnancy test and performed an ultrasound. The woman was 11 and a half weeks along.
Then came a moment that shifted everything. The client looked at the screen and said, “That is a whole baby on that screen.” She realized she could not go through with abortion. If the baby was a girl, she said she would name her Miracle. The pregnancy felt like a miracle to her because she had not been pregnant in 16 years. The mobile unit became the space where fear and anger gave way to clarity and courage.
Kisha connected her with ongoing support and resources, including parenting education and material help through partner organizations. She also highlighted how Care Net’s expanded family support, including fatherhood programming, helps wrap care around the whole family. In Kisha’s words, the work is “full circle,” and it is “all God.”
A Challenge to Churches and Pregnancy Centers: Answer the Call
As the conversation closed, Roland asked what encouragement Kisha would give to ministries considering going mobile. Her answer was straightforward: pray about it, then move forward when God gives clarity. Mobile ministry comes with challenges, from mechanical issues to difficult encounters, but it also comes with support. ICU Mobile equips and assists centers as they develop and operate mobile units, and donors and partners often step in to sustain the work.
Kisha’s final encouragement was the kind that comes from lived experience: “Go for it, because it’s really an asset to what we’re doing for the Lord.”
Why This Story Matters Now
Kisha Martin’s story is more than inspiring. It is instructive. It shows how God uses personal testimony, training, prayer, and presence to bring help into hard places. It shows how the Church can expand its reach, not by becoming more distant or institutional, but by becoming more present.
If you have wondered whether mobile ministry is worth exploring, consider what Kisha’s team sees every week: people who might never enter a building will walk onto a mobile unit. People who feel trapped will find options. People who feel alone will encounter the love of God through His people.
Jesus went mobile. And by God’s grace, we can too.
