Editor’s Note: Making and Multiplying Disciples for Life: The Story of First Baptist Orlando’s First Embrace Pregnancy Center releases January 18 and offers a powerful look at how God works through ordinary believers who say yes in faith. Find more details at Care-Net.org/Church.
Every day, women and families walk into pregnancy centers feeling anxious, afraid, and unsure of what comes next. They aren’t just looking for answers—they’re looking for hope. They want to know someone cares.
The upcoming First Orlando documentary shows what happens when the local church is prepared to meet people in that moment—not just with services, but with presence.
At First Orlando, a simple yet intentional pathway exists between the pregnancy center and the church. Clients aren’t treated as visitors passing through. They are welcomed into community.
One mother described her experience this way:
“We found a family… a home away from home.”
That is what happens when crisis meets connection.

Compassion Creates Pathways
The Hope Program at First Orlando demonstrates a powerful truth: discipleship often begins with hospitality.
Families receive practical support—baby items, encouragement, consistency—but they also encounter something deeper. They are invited into relationships. Into worship. Into belonging.
Psalm 19:14 again frames this ministry:
“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight…”
Compassion expressed through words and actions becomes an open door to discipleship.
The Church as God Intended
A sign displayed prominently at First Orlando reads simply: “For Orlando.”
It’s a reminder that the church exists not for itself, but for the people God places around it.
When the church shows up with warmth, humility, and consistency, fear gives way to trust. Isolation gives way to connection. And connection opens the door to transformation.

A Call to Discipleship
Ask yourself: How can my church—and my own life—be a place where people in crisis find connection instead of distance?
Often, the most powerful ministry moments come through simple faithfulness.
After watching the trailer, consider praying this with us.
Lord, help me see people through Your eyes. Make me attentive, compassionate, and present. Use my church to turn fear into belonging. Amen.
