In May, we received news that the Supreme Court decided to hear a case regarding a 2018 Mississippi law deemed to be unconstitutional by lower courts. The law would have made abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy illegal in Mississippi.

This is great news! Their decision raises the possibility, once again, that Roe v. Wade (the 1973 Supreme Court decision that made abortion legal across the country) could be overturned or weakened.

That is certainly a reason for hope. But it should also serve as a sober reminder about the importance of making sure we are prepared to win this legal victory. Such a legal victory would make abortions harder to get in many states. While this is good, it won’t make unplanned pregnancies go away. And when those unplanned pregnancies happen, there will be many more women and men – thousands? hundreds of thousands? – looking for a place to turn to for help in the absence of their ability to get an abortion.

Are we ready to receive them?

Care Net has an amazing network of nearly 1,200 affiliated pregnancy centers. They stand ready to serve women and men at-risk for abortion, regardless of what the law says. But what about communities without pregnancy centers? What about the people who don’t want to visit a pregnancy center because they’ve been influenced by the pro-choice movement’s lies about pregnancy centers?

This is why the local church and its role in serving women and men considering abortion are so important. There are over 400,000 churches in the United States. If just 1% of those churches””4,000 of them””offered visible ministries for women and men considering abortion, 1,200 could grow to an incredible 5,200 points of compassion in local communities across the country.

Don’t you want to be part of that sort of change? You can!  Learn more about how Care Net can help you start a Pro Abundant Life ministry at your church at: makinglifedisciples.com.

Let’s make sure we, the Church, are prepared to win. Amen!
