What if the most influential voice in a woman’s pregnancy decision isn’t her doctor, her best friend, or even her mother—but the father of the baby? Research says it is. And if we’re not reaching him, we’re missing one of the biggest opportunities to save lives and strengthen families.
For 50 years, Care Net has walked alongside families and pregnancy centers, helping moms choose life and take the first steps toward abundant life in Christ. During this time, one truth has become impossible to ignore: if we want to break the cycles that lead to abortion, we must engage fathers. The data is clear—when dads step up, moms are far more likely to choose life.
That’s why Care Net of Puget Sound launched its men’s program in 2018—to pair expectant dads, many in panic mode, with mature men who can say, “You totally can do this.” This isn’t just about convincing someone to keep a baby—it’s about equipping him to be the father God designed him to be. And when we engage dads, we don’t just change one decision. We change generations.
#1 The Power of a Father’s Influence
Care Net’s national survey found that the father of the baby is the most influential person in a woman’s abortion decision—by a wide margin. Yet 61% of post-abortive men said they told her, “I’ll support you either way.” That’s not leadership—it’s abdication. Helping men step into their God-given role as protectors and providers changes the conversation from “whatever you decide” to “I’m with you, and we can do this together.”

#2 God’s Design for Family Is Not Optional
From the nativity onward, God’s plan for life has included both a mother and a father. Jesus could have been born to a single mother, but God sent an angel to Joseph, calling him to his role as husband and father. Engaging dads today is about more than cultural preference—it’s about aligning with the God’s blueprint for human flourishing.
#3 Discipleship, Not Just Decisions
As one Care Net affiliate in Grand Rapids, Michigan says: “Show me a neighborhood where fathers are involved, and I will show you a neighborhood that is thriving.” Meeting a dad at a moment of crisis opens the door to far more than parenting tips. It’s a chance to share the gospel, invite him into Christian community, and equip him for lasting change.
“We wanted to pair them with some mature guys who can help them see, you totally can do this. There’s gonna be things to figure out…things to learn, but we want to walk with you through the whole journey.”
