Dr. Sandy Christiansen

National Medical Director

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

I pursued a career in medicine out of a desire to help people and bring them hope. It sounds corny, but it’s true. To be part of an organization that puts Christ first, intentionalizes compassion, hope, and help, and champions the pro(abundant) life message to a weary world feels like “coming home” and is truly a joy. Highlights: helping affiliates pursue medical best practices; giving a word of encouragement and prayer; promoting the culture of life.

What is your favorite Bible verse/book/chapter/section? Why?

One of my favorite verses is Hebrews 4:16, “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” God is our Abba, how comforting to know we can run into His arms!

Where are you from? Where did you grow up?

I was born at Providence Hospital (love that name) in Washington, D.C. and grew up in the Maryland suburbs. My school field trips were often to D.C. monuments and museums and once, a Senators’ baseball game! Yes, I’m that old.

What is your favorite fictional character and why?

Arwen from Lord of the Rings. She beautifully portrays enduring, sacrificial love.

What is something people don’t know about you?

I really enjoy creative arts, especially watercolor painting. My mother was from Latvia (and was a refugee during WWII) and my dad’s father was from Greece. As a former practicing obstetrician, I’ve delivered hundreds of babies and used to perform surgeries!
