Toneia Mayes
executive Director of Center Services
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
The most rewarding part of my job is time spent with center leadership and their teams. By far, this is why I do what I do. I love to encourage and provide training for centers in need. We have such a mission as a TEAM of affiliates! I am privileged to be able to serve in this way.
What is your favorite Bible verse/book/chapter/section? Why?
Psalm 139 says that we were knit together in our mother’s womb [the amplified says, “as if embroidered together with various colors”]. What a picture of our uniqueness in God’s eyes. He knew us before we were born… and that blows my mind!
Do you have any weird phobias?
One weird phobia I have is feet. Yep, you read that right. I am not a foot fan. Remember when you used to go to the shoe store (if you are old enough) and they would take off your shoe and put on a new shoe for you to try. Yeah, that would be my worst job ever! I don’t like your feet and I don’t even like my feet. Let’s just keep our feet away from each other.
Where are you from? Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Washington state on an island called Camano Island for 18 years, and then moved to Alaska for 20 years. In Alaska, I lived in Anchorage, Wasilla and Fairbanks. I was an Executive Director during my time there and have wonderful friends and family that still live there. Oklahoma is my home now and has been for some time.
What is something people don’t know about you?
I had the privilege of spending time on the mission field in my early 20’s. There is nothing like ministering in places like southern India and Singapore! It truly changed my life. I was a single parent for 13 years before marrying my husband, Jeff. So, I have two children that are 14 years apart in age. I’m a proud Mimi of 3 beautiful grands and life is GOOD. God has been so good to me.
