Over the last two years, Chris Pratt has helped us fall in love with our childhoods again. Last spring he had us singing “Everything is Awesome” as a favorite toy was brought to life in “The Lego Movie”. Last Summer, Star Lord and his rag tag group of misfit “Guardian’s of the Galaxy” saved the world as they danced to 80’s music. This week Chris Pratt’s face off against a genetically created Indominus Rex has brought a 90’s favorite back to life and taken the box office by storm in “Jurassic World”.

In Jurassic World, we saw the results of pursuing technological progress for the sake of progress without any moral boundaries.  As Owen Grady, played by Chris Pratt, surveyed the desctruction caused by a genetically modified 50 ft. long dinosaur, he declares, “Maybe progress should lose for once.”  The inevitability of progress vs. its destructive potential is put on full display in Jurassic World, and something we need to regularly consider in the modern world.

While American’s fall in love with Pratt’s movie characters, he is also a man of incredible personal character.

In conjunction with the release of Guardians, he opened up to People magazine about the birth of his son.

But when their son, Jack, was born nine weeks premature in August 2012, the couple felt a helplessness with which many parents are all too familiar.

“We were scared for a long time,” Pratt, 35, says of the month that his first-born spent in an intensive care unit. “We prayed a lot.”

He turned to his family and close friends for support. And even at the darkest of hours, he treasured every moment with his son.

“It restored my faith in God, not that it needed to be restored, but it really redefined it,” the actor says. “The baby was so beautiful to us, and I look back at the photos of him and it must have been jarring for other people to come in and see him, but to us he was so beautiful and perfect.”

In a speech at the March for Dimes Celebration of Babies, Chris Pratt shared how it is his son above anything else that gives him meaning.

“I’ve done all kinds of cool things as an actor “” I’ve jumped out of helicopters and done some daring stunts and played baseball in a professional stadium, but none of it means anything compared to being somebody’s daddy.”

Pratt’s love and compassion for chidlren in need was on display when he and Chris Evans, Captain America, visited a children’s hospital in Boston and Seattle following the Superbowl.

Let us continue to see the importance of all life regardless how vulnerable and fragile, and continue to put faith and family at the center of our lives.
