These days I am reminded of the words of the Apostle, “who are we to say what we will do tomorrow?” God is sovereign. He alone knows what tomorrow holds.
But thanks to the life-saving work of His Son Jesus Christ, we know Him and He knows us. Our fears, our weaknesses, and our frailty.
Like you, I’ve been thinking a lot about COVID-19 and what it could mean for our nation. As businesses close their doors to slow the spread of the virus, millions of Americans face financial uncertainty.
Abortion is an evil that flourishes in environments of fear and isolation. Unfortunately, as America continues to fight this virus, I fear that many more women and men will turn to abortion when they discover they’re pregnant. The need for Pro Abundant Life people to surround these parents with compassion, hope, and help will be critical.
Experts have said that the virus poses the greatest risk to those 65 years or older, or those with certain health conditions (such as respiratory issues). I don’t know if you fit one of these categories, but many of our ministry partners do. After years of faithful service and intercession for the unborn lives at risk of abortion, they may suddenly find themselves at risk of an invisible, insidious threat.
We at Care Net are praying for you and your loved ones. We are praying that God will keep you, protect you, and enable you to be His hands and His feet in these uncertain times. We are praying that God will show you how you can boldly carry out Christ’s command to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and give water to the thirsty in your community in the days of COVID-19. I am convinced that this pandemic gives us an incredible opportunity to embody the Gospel in brand new ways to our neighbors.
May we not be known as those who hoard but those who share. May we not be those who flee from need, but run towards it. May this crisis reveal to our neighbors, our communities, and our national leaders that Christians are the first to serve, to love, and to help.
Please join me in praying these remaining days of Lent and, if need be, beyond for those in COVID-19’s path. For those most at risk of infection. Pray for the parents facing unplanned pregnancies and financial uncertainty. Pray that abortion will not grow in power during this season. Pray that the more than 30,000 staff and volunteers in our affiliated pregnancy centers would be able to continue their work in the midst of the growing quarantine.
In closing, I wanted to share with you the lyrics of a powerful song. I pray it encourages you in the trying times ahead.
O The Deep Deep Love of Jesus
O the deep, deep love of Jesus,
Vast unmeasured, boundless, free!
Rolling as a mighty ocean in its fullness over me!
Underneath me, all around me, is the current Of Thy love
Leading onward, leading homeward to
Thy glorious rest above!O the deep, deep love of Jesus,
Spread His praise from shore to shore!
How He loveth, ever loveth, changeth
never, nevermore!
How He watches o’er His loved ones,
died to call them all His own
how for them He intercedeth, watcheth
o’er them from the throne!O the deep, deep love of Jesus,
‘Tis a heav’n of heav’ns to me
And it lifts me up to glory, for it lifts me up to Thee!
May the Love of Jesus surround, protect, and empower you in the days ahead.
