For Logan, an unexpected pregnancy forced him to confront fears he never expected. He already knew the joys and challenges of fatherhood. Although his previous marriage had ended, his children remained one of God’s greatest blessings in his life. As a single father, he poured himself into raising them. Psalm 127 reminds us: “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.” The psalm doesn’t say children are a reward only when the timing feels right. It doesn’t say they are a blessing only when finances are secure or relationships are uncomplicated.
Scripture declares that children themselves are God’s gift. Every child bears God’s image and possesses immeasurable value—not because of the circumstances surrounding conception, but because every life is created by Him and for His purposes.
That truth doesn’t erase the real fears parents experience during an unexpected pregnancy. But it reframes those fears through God’s perspective. An unexpected pregnancy may surprise us. It never surprises God.
Fear Can Cloud Our Calling
Like many men, Logan wasn’t questioning whether children have value. He was questioning whether he was capable. Would he fail again? Could he provide? Would another child make an already difficult situation impossible?
These are questions many fathers quietly carry. Fear has a way of convincing men that their circumstances define them. The gospel reminds us that our identity is found in Christ, not in our fears or failures. God often calls ordinary, imperfect people into extraordinary responsibilities—and then provides the grace to walk faithfully in them. Fatherhood is one of those callings.
Sometimes Fathers Need Someone to Believe in Them
As Logan spoke with his Pregnancy Decision Line coach, something began to change. The conversation wasn’t about condemnation. It was about hope.
His coach helped him think beyond the immediate crisis and see the opportunity before him—not simply to avoid abortion, but to embrace fatherhood once again.
By the end of the conversation, Logan realized abortion wasn’t what he truly wanted. He wanted to choose life. He wanted to pursue reconciliation with his girlfriend. He wanted to become the father his unborn child deserved. Sometimes all a father needs is someone willing to remind him who he can become.

A Prayer for Fathers Like Logan
Father, thank You for the gift of children and for calling men to the sacred responsibility of fatherhood. Strengthen fathers who are facing fear and uncertainty during an unexpected pregnancy. Give them the courage to choose life, to love sacrificially, and to trust that You will equip them for every good work. May Your church continue to surround mothers, fathers, and children with the hope of the gospel so that families can experience the abundant life found in Jesus Christ. Amen.
