God Intervened Through You to Rescue a Homeless Woman and her Baby!
When Gabriela* came to her appointment with the ICU Mobile medical unit in her neighborhood, she didn’t sugarcoat her situation.
“I’m homeless. I’m living in my car. I am going to get an abortion.”
Before doing anything else, our team tried to address the crisis of her living situation. So we offered to help her with temporary shelter. She resisted – even as the staff explained several different options available to her. They just wanted to get her to a safe place off the streets, but Gabriela didn’t want to talk about anything other than ending her pregnancy.
“I have to have an abortion because my situation is bad,” she said.
The wonderful women at the mobile unit prayed with her and God began to work in her heart. She was now really having second thoughts about getting an abortion. The Holy Spirit was opening her eyes to the truth. They prayed together asking for God’s wisdom, and Gabriela rededicated her life to Jesus! Praise God, for His hand in Gabriela’s life.
And then God opened her eyes to something else: during the ultrasound, Gabriela discovered that she had twins. In tears, she cried that God answered her prayers! She told the ministry team that going back to when she was a little girl, she always wanted twins, because her brothers are twins.
With a newfound excitement for her pregnancy, and her heart on fire for the Lord, Gabriela accepted help finding shelter, and the women promptly connected her with a wonderful maternity home where she would find the support of other mothers in her situation as well as the continuing compassion, hope, and help from the staff on the mobile medical unit.
She texted the mobile medical unit team that night saying she was 100% certain she would be keeping her babies. On top of that, she’d started bringing her boyfriend to Bible study. Today, she is in a safe home, she’s working on getting a steady job, and is receiving Christ-centered help that will support her during her pregnancy and for many years to come.
