What if Jesus’s most famous parable about kindness wasn’t just a lesson in compassion—but a roadmap for engaging in the pro-life mission? In part one of this special CareCast episode, Roland Warren and Vincent DiCaro explore how the parable of the Good Samaritan reveals not only who our “neighbor” is, but what it really means to be Pro Abundant Life. Their conversation challenges today’s cultural definitions of compassion and invites believers to step into a broader, deeper vision of love, justice, and care for the vulnerable.

In Luke 10, when a legal expert asks Jesus, “Who is my neighbor?” he’s not looking for truth—he’s looking for a loophole. As Roland Warren points out in this episode, the man “wanted to justify himself,” hoping that his neighborhood could remain small and selective.

But Jesus turns the question on its head, telling the story of a Samaritan—an outsider—who exemplifies true love for one’s neighbor by caring for a man left half-dead by the road. Roland and Vince connect this parable to today’s pro-life movement, showing how both advocacy (changing laws) and care (offering help) are essential to living out the great commandment to love God and love others.

The parable also reminds us that our “near one”—as the Greek word for neighbor implies—is anyone within our reach, especially the most vulnerable.

For a pregnant woman, that near one is the baby in her womb. For a father, it’s his unborn child.

Being Pro Abundant Life means we cannot walk to the other side of the road while a neighbor cries out for help.

Just like the Samaritan, we’re called to see, stop, and act. And as Roland reminds us, it’s not just about knowing the law—it’s about living out its deeper call to mercy.
